Abstract
The fast fourier transformation(FFT) method with computer was used to increse the signal to noise ratio(S/N) in high resolution gas chromatographic trace analysis. A new procedure has been devised for FFT smoothing of chromatograms with a very low S/N. The proposed FFT smoothing procedure allows improvement of S/N by a factor of 12 with a very low error of peak area recovery.
