Abstract
A new method was developed for the simultaneous determination of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone in the acetate fiber filter rod of cigarettes by HPLC. Satisfactory separation was achieved on an AcclaimExplosive E2 C18column with a mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile/water at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min, and the UV detector wavelength was 352 nm. The recoveries were in the range of 95.3%~105.6%, 86.1%~90.4% and 96.5%~102.2% for formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acetone, respectively, with RSD values of less than 5%. The method is simple, accurate and reproducible and can be used for the quality control of cigarettes.
